Bankimacandra CattopadhyayaBankim chandra chattopadhyay cie (june 26 or 27, 1838 - april 8, 1894) was an indian author, poet, essayist, and journalist. He wrote the 1882 bengali language novel anandamath, which is considered a classic of modern bengali and indian literature. H wrote vande mataram in heavily sanskritized bengali, personifying bengal as a mother goddess and encouraging revolutionaries during the indian independence movement. Chattopadhayay published fourteen novels in bengali, as well as numerous serious, serio-comic, satirical, scientific, and critical treatises. Chattopadhayay is widely considered as a pivotal player in bengal's and the indian subcontinent's literary renaissance.
