He was featured in the PBS documentay, Freedom Summer, which chronicled the civil rights movement in Mississippi in 1964. He was born in Mississippi and was an active participant in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. As a Fellow with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, he traveled to 17 countries.
