After starting her medical career as a nurse, she went on to complete her junior doctor training in urban, rural and remote locations in Western Austalia, and achieved a fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners six years after graduating from medical school.In 2014 Anita published research articles in both national and international medical and psychiatric journals on the topic of suicide and self-harm in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
