Angelina SáenzBorn and raised in central Los Angeles, Angelina Sáenz grew up in the racism, poverty and violence of the 70s and 80s. A high school dropout, she attended East Los Angeles College, received a four-year scholarship to Occidental College, where she stuied abroad in Madrid, Spain and received her BA in Theater. She completed a Master's in Education from Claremont Graduate University and has been an elementary public-school teacher for 22 years. In her teaching career she has received awards from the Obama White House, the La Opinion Newspaper and is featured in the KCET documentary on Dual Language Education. She served on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Teacher Advisory Council and traveled with a teacher delegation to Finland to learn about their educational system. In 2018, she received a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Otis College. Her poetry has appeared in venues such as Diálogo, Split this Rock, Out of Anonymity, Angels Flight Literary West, Every Other, Cockpit Revue Paris and The Acentos Review.
