Andrzej WieczorekWojciech Szczygielski, a professor emeritus of the University of Lodz was born 29th April 1934 in Poznan. He completed his masters degree in History at the University of Lodz in 1955, where he begun work at the Institute of History in 1956. He obtaind a PHD in 1961 and reached the title of professor in 1979. In the years 1992-2004 he was head of the Department of Polish 16th-18th Century History at the University of Lodz. His initial area of studies was socio-economic history of Poland in the 16th-18th century period. Since 1965 his research has shifted to Polish political culture at the dawn of the Modern Era with special focus on the period of Enlightenment, especially the Great Seym and 3rd of May Constitution.
