Allen MurphyLieutenant Colonel Allen V.D. Murphy, US Army retired, was born in 1944 and is mentioned in the letters as "the baby". He lived at his grandmother's house as a "thirteenth" child until he was nearly ten. The house was full of military memorabilia andhis father and uncles were a constant inspiration. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's Degree in History, and received a Masters Degree in Management from Webster University. His military career included four years in the Air Force as a Missile Combat Crew Commander (Minuteman 1), a tour in Vietnam as an advisor to the 9th ARVN Infantry Division, and finished with five years in the Pentagon.
