Alistair G McKenzieAlistair G. McKenzie was born and educated in Zimbabwe. He qualified and practised as a pharmacist before obtaining his medical degree, after which he proceeded to specialist training in anaesthesia. He became a Consultant Anaesthetist first in Zimbawe and subsequently in Scotland. At the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, he served over three years as Clinical Lead in Obstetric Anaesthesia. His research interests extended to the history of anaesthesia. He retired from clinical work as a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 2019, but he has continued to tutor as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer for the University of Edinburgh. He has published over 40 articles on a wide range of anaesthetic topics in peer reviewed journals. In addition, he has contributed chapters in anaesthetic textbooks and three books. He has served the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland for many years as Honorary Archivist, and he was elected President of the History of Anaesthesia Society 2017-2021.
