Ali Asghar Semsar YazdiAli Asghar Semsar Yazdi was born in 1956 in Yazd, Iran. He graduated from the Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, France (INSA de Lyon), with a PhD degree in civil engineering (1995). He has taken part in setting up such water organizations as Yaz Regional Water Authority, Yazd Water Museum, Qanat College, and International Center on Qanats and Historic Hydraulic Structures (UNESCO-ICQHS). In 2000, he held the first International Conference on Qanat, and in 2003, he was awarded the "best researcher". From 2006 to 2013, he was the Director of the International Center on Qanats and Historic Hydraulic Structures. He is now senior advisor to this center. In February 2012, he organized the International Conference on Traditional Knowledge for water resources management (TKWRM2012).
