Alessandro SaffoAlessandro Saffo was born in 1964 and lives in Catania, one of the nine provinces of Sicily near the volcano Etna. He studied photography at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome. He taught photography at the Istituto D'Arte in Catania for three yeas and then at ANFE (a school for vocational training) in Catania for fifteen years, where he designed and developed advanced courses. His most important publications are: Cercando la Sicilia (1989), Bimbi (1989), Il Segno della Presenza (1990), Etna Akmè (his greatest homage to his motherland; 2004) and Strongyle, his latest photographic book on one of the Eolian Islands (2006). These last two books have text available both in Italian and English. He belongs to Simephoto photographers' group, and his photographs have appeared in many Italian and foreign magazines like Meridiani, Domus, Bell'Italia, Qui Touring, Specchio, Espresso, Check out of Wind Jet, Amica and others. He has organised photographic exhibitions in Italy and abroad. His main photographic reportage abroad is La Presenza degli Italiani a Grenoble ("The Presence of Italians in Grenoble"). He has also collaborated with local publishers to develop books about Sicily. His research mainly focuses on his native land and on the secrets of its light. His favourite language is colour.
