Alan WatermanAlan Waterman was born in 1949 in what was then rural Essex and spent his early childhood grubbing around in hedges ditches and ponds developing what would become a lifelong passion for the natural world in all its forms.

He obtained a deree in biology from London University and then qualified as a teacher.
