Abaho Gift Conrad

Abaho Gift ConradI was born in 1992 in Gasabo, Rwanda from where the 1994 Rwandan genocide emerged. At a tender age of one and a half, all my parents and relatives were butchered. I don't actually know how I survived the machetes. I wish I could remember life to perfetion. I can't but my guardian angel, now a fellow refugee here in Uganda in this Rwamwanja camp, narrated to me a story about how she saved me by picking me from a sorghum garden and bringing me to Uganda. For some time I thought she was my mother. As a refugee sleeping on an empty stomach was the order of the day. But eventually, thank God, I scored well in school which attracted the Chairperson of the village to start paying for me first up to Diploma level and finally to Bachelors Degree. Now, I can no longer think about the world without crying about how lucky I have been: one child saved from dying of either starvation or wild animals in that sorghum garden long ago. Apparently someone thought that I could survive, testify and give hope to my fellow underprivileged refugees. How I wish I could give a thousand chances to such people all over the world.I wish all the underprivileged children of the world could go to sleep without empty stomachs and gun shots. I am just one person who now needs to help my fellow Underprivileged people begin to realize that guns, bullets, war, diseases and despair are not the things that define us as human beings. Lest they forget, it is not the government nor the circumstances that will change the future. It's just like one great politician once said: don't ask what your country can do for you, rather ask what you can do for your country.I wish to share my experiences, my knowledge, my hard work, my education and my suffering at zero cost for the betterment of my fellow brothers and sisters in marginalized communities.I realized one thing: that money is not the beginning nor the end of the world. If you have ever experienced despair in life, you will wish to help people to realize that it's better to help the community rather than just being a self seeker. Let's work together for the betterment of all underprivileged people.I will never rest until my fellow underprivileged people have food, medicine and hope. Read More Read Less
