Jack Moehle

Jack MoehleJack Moehle, Ph.D., is the T.Y. and Margaret Lin Professor of Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He was founding director of the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Reseach Center. Dr. Moehle played a leading role on several teams to develop professional guidance and design standards, including Improved Seismic Design Guidelines for California Highway Bridges (ATC 32); Guidelines for Evaluation and Repair of Masonry and Concrete Walls (FEMA 306); Guidelines for Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings (FEMA 273); Development of Next-Generation Performance-Based Seismic Design Procedures for New and Existing Buildings (FEMA P-58); and Guidelines for Performance-Based Seismic Design of Tall Buildings (Tall Buildings Initiative, PEER). He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, an Honorary Member of the Structural Engineers Association of California, and an elected Member of the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Moehle chaired the seismic provisions subcommittee of the ACI 318 Building Code Committee from 1995 to 2014, and is the chair of the ACI 318 Building Code Committee for the 2014-2020 code cycle.
